Sanguine Dream Version 0.21


Hello,  Happy Holidays!
And welcome to my devblog about Sanguine Dream's 0.21 update! It's been a very long time and I apologise, but I hope it was worth the wait!

Keep in mind that while the foundations of the saving system are still being adjusted, the game is not backwards compatible for older versions. If you play on an older save you will likely encounter bugs, I would recommend a new save for each major update like this one.


Additions for this update include:

  • A LOT of bugfixes, hopefully this version of the game should be more polished than usual, which is especially important because...
  • I've also included a HTML browser version of the game,  no need to download the game to play!
  • Encounter art for the Somnium Knights.
  • Changed name of Blacksmith to Armourer to fix a bug in the html version.
  • Somnium Knight dialogue art
  • Encounter art for Alikhan
  • An extra scene for Lancet
  • Small additions to scenes during the Alikhan Takeover Bad end.
  • Small adjustments to Rubim's story content,  this will likely be ongoing for all companion side stories
  • A whole host of new scenes, with different scenarios based on the respect level of each character
  • An addition to encounters, offering brief descriptive observations or comments during a fight.
  • Reorganising  and polishing of story content, rather than having important story content being added to the list of explorerable scenes, they are built into the landmarks and can be activated when the player sleeps.
  • Landmarks now have options when you visit them, so you can speak to whoever is there, shop if there's a merchant, or progress their side story or main story content depending on what's available there.
  • The player will be able to unlock a whole range of skills, but they will be limited to 3 per category (Skills, Racial Skills, Spells, Racial Spells)
    • With this in mind, you now have the abillity to switch out skills that you've learned, allowing you to customise your build and account for enemies with varied elemental weaknesses or to apply certain status effects. 
    • Spells and skills are still being added, so you will be unable to learn any new ones in this version, as a consolation, you will have access to more than you usually would at level 1 including poison strike.
  • Persistant damage is now set up, so combat encounters are a bit more difficult and require more rest.
  • Enemies now have elemental weaknesses which can make combat smoother or more difficult for you as you play around with what these are for each enemy.  No system for tracking this though, but this will be coming at a later date.
  • Included a more intuitive system for tracking the health  and damage of enemies in relation to the player's level, hopefully makes the gameplay feel better and more quick.
  • Levelling up is currently disabled however, and the skills players have access to will be more than enough to progress while I continue to add more spells and skills.
  • Disabled EXP gain upon level up to avoid issues where enemies would become too strong while you were unable to apply the stats you gain by leveling up.


Content planned for future updates include: 

  • Set up a scene in your private camp for dealing with Lust, as this isn't reset upon resting by design.
  • Add scene content for the Somnium Knights
  • Finish up the levelling up system and add skills and spells that can be learned by adding points to certain stats. 
  • Finish up WIP scenes in the bad endings
  • Include a tutorial which properly introduces the characters and teaches you about the game. 
  • Create portrait art for the Lion Merc, the Captain, Alikhan, Kobold Chief, and the Armourer
  • Set up the Hamlet and it's landmarks/characters.

I look forward to sharing info on that in future updates, but for now, I hope that you enjoy the new content that's been released in this update!
